The Buffalo Bills will head into the final break of the summer before they pick up in training camp next month at St. John Fisher University, where they have been for many years. It’s a time for the front office and coaching staff to evaluate the talent that they have brought in this past offseason.
This one of the most aggressive offseasons that Brandon Beane has had since taking over as the general manager back in 2017 and it shows Bills fans that he recognizes the championship window the Bills are in. He has a superstar quarterback in Josh Allen, coaching stability led by Sean McDermott, and continuity across the team with some stars and fan-favorites.
Beane brought in a lot of free agents (both new and past Bills players), as well as drafted a solid rookie class. One thing you can count on Beane doing is finding players to come to Buffalo who have either been with the Bills or in Carolina (where Beane was prior to joining the Bills).
One player who was with the Bills before, but then left was cornerback Dane Jackson. After being drafted by the Bills back in 2020 in the 7th round and spending four seasons with the team, Jackson joined the Carolina Panthers last offseason and would spend just one season there before eventually coming back to Buffalo.
Even though Jackson is back in Buffalo and knows the defense that Sean McDermott wants to run, he might very well be in roster trouble heading into training camp just simply based on what Beane did with the cornerback position this offseason.
CB Dane Jackson may not make final 53-man roster for Bills
Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone recently listed one player for each team who faces the most pressure after minicamp and Bedinger is spot on for the Bills’ pick with Jackson.
"They [the Bills] were rumored to be interested in a potential Jaire Alexander trade before he was cut, and they brought back former 1st-round pick Tre’Davious White. The moves the Bills have made in the defensive backfield put a player like Dane Jackson in the roster crosshairs and if the Bills feel like their investments in youth at the cornerback position can work out quickly, they likely won’t hesitate to dump Jackson. "Sayre Bedinger, NFL Spin Zone
Tre’Davious White is the better veteran between he and Jackson, and the Bills also didn’t draft three cornerbacks for no reason (Maxwell Hairston, Jordan Hancock, Dorian Strong). Throughout training camp, Jackson’s performance should be closely observed by fans and the coaching staff because logistically, he is set up to be pushed out if his competition around him can outperform him.
