Any Buffalo Bills fan who subjects themselves to watching Super Bowl LX will no doubt be rooting against Stefon Diggs and the New England Patriots. The rival AFC East franchise is set to play in its 10th Super Bowl since 2001, and having Diggs as the top receiver in the Patriots’ offense doesn’t make that pill any easier to swallow.

Diggs, of course, is playing in his first Super Bowl, having lost in each conference championship before signing on with New England last offseason. The 32-year-old had a resurrection-type season, catching 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four scores, dwarfing his stat line from last year in Houston, where Buffalo traded him to.

Ahead of the Big Game, Diggs relayed a message to Bills Mafia, extending an olive branch of sorts to the place he once called home.

“Listen, I love y’all, know what I’m saying? I know I’m far gone, but I do miss y’all. I built a great relationship with y’all,” Diggs said on Monday. “Keep hanging your hat on that quarterback. That quarterback is a Hall of Fame quarterback. Parts of me wish things were different because I do got a lot of love and respect for that team.”

Diggs gave an extra nod to the Bills Mafia fanbase, rightfully placing them among the best in professional sports.

“One of the craziest fanbases in the world. Probably one of the best, I’ll give them top-3.”

Of course, no matter how Sunday goes for the Patriots, Diggs still plays for the Bills’ most competitive rival, and the end of his time in Buffalo wasn’t exactly pretty. Nonetheless, Diggs opened the door for closure down the road.

“Hopefully, one day we can hug it out.”

Naturally, Bills fans aren’t excited for Diggs to be in the Super Bowl in this manner. And many would agree that had things gone differently, maybe Diggs would have had his shot to play in the Super Bowl with the proper AFC East squad instead.

But the NFL story is full of bittersweet moments, and this will be no different. If Diggs can get a championship ring this weekend, it adds not only to his personal legacy but also another chapter to his saga with the Bills. Unfortunately, that chapter just serves as a reminder to Bills Mafia how poorly the Bills were prepared for his departure.
