There would be nothing better than to get a breaking news notification that the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns have agreed on a trade that would send future Hall of Fame pass-rusher Myles Garrett to the Bills. It would make a lot of Bills fans beyond happy that Brandon Beane took a big swing again to try and get the Bills over the hump.
However, it would take a miracle at this point for that scenario to happen. Even though Garrett has made it perfectly clear that he wants to leave Cleveland, the Browns are also standing their ground and letting teams know that he’s not available. Let’s see who blinks first this offseason.
Until then, teams will still be looking for other ways to improve their roster and may not want to wait to try and get a player like Garrett through a trade. Instead, free agency will be heavily utilized. The Bills should be one of those teams that explores the market and look to see who wouldn’t cost a lot of money but can provide an impact.
Bills rumored to eyeing veteran pass rusher not named Myles Garrett
According to Tony Pauline of sportskeeda.com, the Bills are rumored to have interest in edge rusher Preston Smith who has recently been with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pauline stated that “Smith wants to finish his career with a playoff team”, so it would make sense for him to consider the Bills.
Smith was drafted by Washington in 2015 and spent four years there before heading up to the NFC North to join the Green Bay Packers for the next 5.5 years before being traded to the Steelers in the middle of last season.
Averaging seven sacks per season, Smith has only had one season of 10+ sacks in 2019. Even though the Bills would be smart to contractually move on from Von Miller, they would still have their edge rushers in Greg Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa but they would need some more depth.
Smith wouldn’t be as expensive as Miller was and he can help with the growth of Epenesa and Javon Solomon. He was released by the Steelers so he will be looking for his fourth team of his career. If he is looking for a team that has stability, a superstar quarterback, and the chance to compete for a Super Bowl, then Buffalo is the place to be for Smith.
