Rising defensive end has strong chance to (once again) lead Bills in sacks for 2025

Will he repeat as the Bills' sack leader in 2025?

One unit that has slowly grown over the years for the Buffalo Bills, yet still has some work to do, is their pass rush. For what seems like forever at this point, the Bills have had an inconsistent pass rush. They haven’t had a dominant true No. 1 edge rusher in a long time.

Leonard Floyd, who was only in Buffalo for one year in 2023 led the Bills in sacks with 10.5. Before him, the last time the Bills had a double-digit sack leader was OLB/DE Lorenzo Alexander in 2016 with 12.5 sacks.

One long-term player that could finally reach that double-digit mark is Greg Rousseau, who the Bills drafted in 2021 and signed him to a four-year, $80 million extension this offseason.

Throughout the last four years of his career, Rousseau has averaged seven sacks per season (reaching 8 sacks in two of those seasons). He has shown to be a bright pass rusher in the league, but I firmly don’t believe he has reached his ceiling yet. Last season, he had eight sacks which led the Bills but after getting a fresh new extension, this could be the year he doesn’t just lead the Bills again in sacks, but finally breaks that 10+ sack mark.

Greg Rousseau could make a massive jump in 2025

I’m not the only one that is expecting big things from Rousseau in 2025. Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone also believes that Rousseau will finally reach that 10-sack mark in 2025 and lead the Bills in sacks. Here’s what Bedinger said about Rousseau:

"There are a lot of new faces on the Buffalo Bills’ defensive front this year, but Gregory Rousseau remains. And he seems inevitable as the team’s sack leader in 2025. Over four NFL seasons, Rousseau only has 25 total sacks but he’s coming off of arguably his best year yet with 8.0 sacks and a career-best 24 QB hits. He might be blooming a bit later and could reach that 10-plus sack mark in 2025."

Rousseau has had the pleasure of teaming up with some of the best vets in the league. He’s played with teammates like Von Miller and Leonard Floyd. Now he gets the chance to team up with Joey Bosa who can show him how to be a more ferocious edge rusher. It’s a matter of time before Rousseau can become this Bills team’s version of Bruce Smith.
