When the Buffalo Bills hired Brandon Beane back in 2017, it doubled down on the culture that the Bills wanted to build. First, Sean McDermott was hired in January of that year. Then after the NFL Draft, the Bills hired Beane after parting ways with Doug Whaley. It’s kind of funny looking back on that draft class because the Bills ended up acquiring guys like Tre’Davious White, Dion Dawkins, and Matt Milano.
Since being brought in by the Bills, he has done a great job at building up a winning team through the draft and he is one of the best general managers in the league when it comes to negotiating contracts.
It seems like he always finds a way to get ahead of the game and extend players without hurting the team financially. Over the last near-decade, Beane has extended a lot of players without having to pay up big time like you see these other teams doing. While teams like the Jets are extending Sauce Gardner to a $30 million per year contract, the Bills got their CB1 in Christian Benford for nearly $11 million cheaper.
Now don’t get me wrong, Beane has had his misses like any other general manager. At the same time, he is a major reason why the Bills are who they are today. However, a recent power rankings list gives slight disrespect to Beane and the work he has done which includes this offseason.
Brandon Beane ranked a little low on recent GM power rankings
Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone recently did a power rankings list of the best GMs with training camp coming up and for some reason, Beane was only placed at No. 5 despite being a major reason why Buffalo is a powerhouse.
"The Buffalo Bills have the best roster in the NFL, so GM Brandon Beane comes in fifth in our GM rankings, but like a couple of other teams in the AFC, Buffalo has failed to get over the hump in the conference and has been second-fiddle to the Kansas City Chiefs for years now.Lou Scataglia, NFL Spin Zone
Beane simply knows how to do this thing at a high level in the NFL. You could argue that Beane should be ranked a bit higher."
Yes, Beane should be higher on the list and it’s not an argument. Beane is establishing himself as a financial genius for contracts and identifying great talent to add to the Bills. He and Sean McDermott know how to win and they have done a fantastic job at making the Bills a winning team. All that’s left is for them to reach the Super Bowl and win it all.
