One of the best things to witness in the NFL Draft is not just your favorite team make a solid pick, but to see a bitter rival make a hilariously bad pick that makes them a laughstock. Within just the AFC East alone, one of the most notorious reaches in recent draft history involved the New England Patriots when they selected offensive lineman Cole Strange in the first round out of Chattanooga.
It was a completely hilarious pick if you’re a fan of any other team other than New England. Strange has only played in 13 games (due to injury) and he hasn’t made any sort of first round impact.
With the Buffalo Bills being the top team in the AFC East, year-in and year-out they are always watching the Jets, Dolphins, and Patriots picking ahead of them in the first round of the draft. Even though they have the chance to pick some of the top tier talent, it also gives them a chance to reach on a player and get a lot of pushback from the media and fans.
NFL mock draft has New York Jets making a hilarious reach for a tight end
John Blair from NFL Mocks created a top-ten mock draft, in which the Patriots (No. 4) and the Jets (No. 7) were making their pick. Blair has the Patriots picking LSU offensive lineman Will Campbell, which would a great pick for them if Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter were off the board in the top three. However, the Jets make a huge questionable pick at No. 7 at a position…
Blair has the Jets selecting Michigan tight end Colston Loveland with the 7th overall pick, and this would be a hilarious reach for the Jets as they are starting from scratch with a new regime.
The Jets are in a weird spot within their franchise. They have a new general manager and head coach, along with a new quarterback in Justin Fields (but he only has a two-year deal). They have many needs after a disappointing 5-12 season in 2024.
Even though Loveland would be a great addition, he’s not even the top tight end in the class. That would be Tyler Warren out of Penn State who is one of the best overall prospects in the draft. Loveland doesn’t have the talent that Warren, plain and simple.
If the Jets end up leaving the draft with a tight end, a position that they could address later on, and not even acquire the best one at the position, it would be a hilarious time for Bills fans as well as the rest of the AFC East. Even though this new regime has the chance to take any route they want to build up the Jets, this is not the way to do it. But hey, if the Jets want to continue to be a mess, then that’s fine with the rest of the division.
