When the Buffalo Bills opened up their 2024 season at home against the Arizona Cardinals, there were not a lot of people who had high hopes for this team. With a revamp of their roster and losing many key veterans due to their salary cap situation, the Bills were looking like that they would lose control of the AFC East. Those doubters couldn’t have been anymore wrong.
Buffalo had a lot of fun moments this season, despite having a rough finish in the AFC championship game. Considering what was expected of the Bills coming into this year, fans should be absolutely proud of what they were able to accomplish.
Even though the stinging feeling is going to be there for a little bit on how the season ended, the Bills had five games that had fans either feeling great about, or on the edge of their seats that resulted in a big celebration.
Ranking the five best games from Bills' 2024 season
5.) Week 15 vs. Detroit Lions (Bills won 48-42)
It was the biggest game of the year at this point in Week 15 when the Bills traveled to Detroit to take on a red hot Lions team. Buffalo was coming off a 44-42 heartbreaking loss against the Los Angeles Rams while the Lions had won 11 straight games.
The Bills got up early on the Lions, 21-7 in what looked like would be a beatdown of the Lions by Buffalo. Eventually, Buffalo was up by 21 points in the middle of the third quarter. However, the Lions came roaring back a little bit but the Bills were able to do just enough to stay ahead. Detroit managed to make it a one-score game with 12 seconds left in the game but a failed onside kick conversion gave the Bills a close, high-scoring win.
4.) Week 9 vs. Miami Dolphins (Bills won 30-27)
Buffalo and Miami’s second matchup in 2024 was closer than their first meeting. The Bills had went down to Miami and completely crushed the Dolphins, 31-10. Tua Tagovailoa was knocked out of the game, giving the Dolphins no chance at getting a win against the team that has dominated them in the Josh Allen era.
This meeting though came down to the wire. The biggest lead of the game was just seven points, with both Buffalo and Miami splitting it. Tua Tagovailoa had a solid game against Buffalo’s defense and the rushing attack managed to hurt the Bills. However, with the Bills’ offense doing just enough late in the 4th quarter to set Tyler Bass to hit a 61-yard game-winning field goal.
That was the moment where Bills fans felt confident in Bass moving forward and Buffalo went on to sweep the Dolphins (once again).
3.) Wild card round vs. Denver Broncos (Bills won 31-7)
The Bills were setup to face one of the more tougher 7-seed teams in the first round of the playoffs. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix arguably played like the best rookie quarterback this season and the Denver defense was the best in the league at applying pressure. They led the league with 63 sacks which led the NFL.
The Denver offense punched Buffalo early on when Nix threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Troy Franklin to give the Broncos and early 7-0 lead. Little did we know that it would be the only time Denver would get on the board. The Bills followed up with a 31 unanswered point run to send the Broncos home early.
2.) Week 11 vs. Kansas City Chiefs (Bills won 30-21)
It has become pretty typical that the Bills are going to beat the Chiefs in the regular season. Now they just need to do it when it matters the most in the playoffs. However, one of the biggest highlights the Bills had this year was ending the Chiefs’ undefeated streak this year.
Kansas City was 9-0 heading into this game in Orchard Park and Josh Allen put the team on his back late in the fourth quarter. Just before the two-minute warning, the Bills were up 23-21 and on fourth down, Allen took the snap and ran 26 yards to the endzone to send the Chiefs back to Kansas City with their first loss of the year.
1.) Week 13 vs. San Francisco 49ers (Bills won 35-10)
There was so much that happened in this game on Sunday Night Football in Buffalo. The Bills were expected to win this game for sure due to the fact that the 49ers had a ton of injuries where they didn’t have Trent Williams, Nick Bosa, and then eventually lost Christian McCaffrey early on. However, the Bills still found a way to dominate San Francisco in the snow.
Not only did the Bills clinch their 5th consecutive AFC East title with a win, Josh Allen threw, ran, and caught a passing touchdown in this game. It was a huge confidence boost for the Bills to win the way they did. They were on top of the world and it looked like no other team could compete with them.
