The Buffalo Bills had the not-so-great pleasure of seeing the New England Patriots have success with a young quarterback in Drake Maye. No one expected the Patriots to have the season that they did last year, but they showed the NFL that they are back and are looking to get out of the irrelevant stage that they have been in since Tom Brady left in 2020.
Even though they had one of the easiest schedules in 2025, they took advantage of their situation and made it all the way to the Super Bowl with Maye on his rookie contract. Now with him going into his third year, the last thing that Bills fans want to see is New England having continued success with Maye on a cheap contract.
A proposed trade offer by Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report has the Bills seeing the Patriots get stronger on the defensive side of the ball.
Bills fans see Patriots get stronger on defense in proposed trade offer
Davenport listed six trade offers that could impact playoff races in 2026, and one of them was the Patriots trading a conditional 3rd-round pick to the New York Giants in exchange for edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.
"The New York Giants have maintained throughout the offseason that they have no intention of trading contract-year edge-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux—at least not for what teams have offered to date." said Davenport.
"For the opportunity to bolster the pass rush, New England might as well mortgage the future a little bit more. And while Thibodeaux had a down 2025, we are taking about a 25-year-old former top-five pick with an 11.5-sack season on his NFL resume." Davenport added.
Thibodeaux has missed some games the last two seasons, which has impacted his production. However, he is a former Top 5 pick who had success early on in his career with the Giants.
With the Giants adding to their defensive line over the last couple of years, Thibodeaux has been looked at as a potential trade candidate. Heck, if the Bills had not invested a ton into their edge rusher room, I would make the case for them to try and acquire Thibodeaux.
If there were ever a trade between New England and New York that would land Thibodeaux with the Patriots, the Bills would have to deal with a solid rotation off the edge which would make their path to the AFC East a lot harder than it already is.
