If there is one position that the Buffalo Bills have faced a ton of criticism from the last two season, it’s clearly wide receiver. While not every team has a great receiving core, the Bills have the best quarterback in the league with Josh Allen, so not having a great wide receiver room has hurt the offense.

Trading for DJ Moore was as great first step to improving the room, but the Bills still needed to bring in extra help. They got themselves a potential steal in Skyler Bell, who they drafted in the 4th round. Adding these two, plus still having Khalil Shakir gives the Bills more help for Allen and the offense.

While Buffalo still does have Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer, they havent’ been much help for the Bills. It makes you wonder if the Bills will truly give them another shot in 2026, or maybe, just maybe, Buffalo will look to add more help.

Proposed trade has Bills landing more WR help for Josh Allen

Justin Carter from FanSided.com put together a list of trades that every NFL division favorite “still needs to make” ahead of the 2026 season, and Carter proposed a trade that has the Bills trading a 2027 4th-round pick to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for WR Xavier Legette.

"This proposed trade is actually one of two things I'd do if I were Bills GM Brandon Beane. First is this move: dealing a mid-round pick for Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette, who hasn't really panned out in Carolina but who has the skill to be a downfield threat with Josh Allen throwing the football." said Carter.

"The other part of this? Recoup some draft capital by then turning around and trading Keon Coleman to a rebuilding team. I don't think Carolina will want Coleman (hence why he isn't in this deal), but essentially I'm thinking about what's basically a three-team swap that lands Buffalo a more promising young wideout than the one that clearly isn't working out." Carter added.

Legette was selected 32nd overall in 2024 by the Carolina Panthers, who traded up with the Bills to select him. Then with the 33rd pick, the Bills ended up selecting Keon Coleman and it clearly hasn't worked out so far.

Legette has been part of an offense that has been up-and-down, and while Bryce Young played some solid football last season, the Panthers still have some questions on their roster. However, them selecting Tetairoa McMillian early in the first round in 2025, it has to make you wonder if Carolina could give up on Legette sooner than later.

In two seasons with the Panthers, Legette has just 860 yards and 7 touchdowns and he’s only missed three games as well. When you compare him to Coleman, who has 960 yards and 8 touchdowns, there isn't a ton of difference. The biggest one though is that Legette doesn't have a quarterback like Allen, so pairing him with Allen could unlock some of his potential that we haven't seen.

Legette would be a better deep threat for Allen than Coleman is, and he would ultimately bring a different factor to this offense as far as throwing the long ball.

While it’s hard to imagine the Panthers giving up on Legette just two years into his rookie deal, you can never say never.
