The first wave of free agency is still going on, but it isn’t as heavy anymore. When the NFL’s legal tampering period opened up, that’s when news was breaking quickly about players agreeing to deals. The Buffalo Bills were not as active during that period, but they did bring in defensive help in cornerback Dee Alford from the Falcons.
Buffalo had also already agreed to a trade to acquire D.J. Moore from the Bears and also re-signed Connor McGovern. After the new league year officially opened up, the Bills made three key defensive additions in Bradley Chubb, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Geno Stone.
Buffalo hasn’t made the most additions, but they are surely changing things up for the better. On the offense, the Bills already have two superstars in Josh Allen and James Cook. Now they get a wide receiver in Moore who has had a ton of success including with Joe Brady in Carolina.
On defense, they are going into a 3-4 defense under Jim Leonhard and adding Chubb, Gardner-Johnson, and Stone have been a great first start to revamp that side of the ball. Still, there have to be more additions prior to the draft. At the same time, what the Bills have done so far have caught the attention of Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone for a great reason.
Latest power rankings gives major respect to Bills
Bedinger put together a power rankings list with the first free agency wave wrapping up and the Bills are in the top five at No. 4 overall just behind the Broncos, Rams, and Seahawks.
"The Bills made a big trade with the Chicago Bears, sending a second-round pick to get wide receiver DJ Moore. That move alone will hopefully solve a major issue this team had last year at receiver, but the Bills have also been able to revamp their defense with the additions of Bradley Chubb, CJ Gardner-Johnson, and Geno Stone." said Bedinger.
It’s a new era at One Bills Drive and we are seeing moves that the Bills typically wouldn’t make. Buffalo is showing the league that even though they made the head coaching change back in January, they are still one of the top teams in the league. They have a quarterback in their prime and solid defensive additions.
They need to capitalize and keep adding more help on defense and maybe even bring in another receiver or two. With Joe Brady now leading the way with Brandon Beane, I wouldn’t put anything past on what the Bills could do.
For now though, the Bills have earned great respect and they need to keep their foot on the gas petal.
