Updated 53-man roster projections after Buffalo Bills' minicamp
Safety (4)
Taylor Rapp, Mike Edwards, Cole Bishop, Damar Hamlin
In past years, there has not been much discussion at safety as it was clear who the starters were (Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer) and they have kept four safeties on the 53-man roster. The Bills should keep four safeties once again and those four should be Taylor Rapp, Mike Edwards, Cole Bishop, and Damar Hamlin.
The only difference this summer is that it is not clear who the starters will be as it will be an open competition where all four will have a chance to win those two spots. The front runners should be Rapp and Edwards but they are far from locks to be starting Week 1.
Specialists (3)
Tyler Bass, Jack Browning, Reid Ferguson
Similar to safety, there is no question that the number of specialists as the Bills will have one long snapper (Reid Ferguson), one place kicker (Tyler Bass), and one punter. The punter position is the only one that has real competition between Sam Martin and rookie Jack Browning.
Unlike some of the other competitions, Browning should be considered the favorite at this point and it is his job to lose. Sam Martin struggled last season and if the Bills were to release him it would create over $1.5 million in cap space.
