Texans expert shares big secrets ahead of Bills' Week 5 clash with Texans
By Brandon Ray
We are just over 24 hours away from seeing the Buffalo Bills take the field at NRG Stadium to take on the Houston Texans. It’s two 3-1 teams facing off and it features two phenomenal quarterbacks in Josh Allen and C.J. Stroud. It will also be the first time the Bills take on former Bill, Stefon Diggs. Ever since the trade between Buffalo and Houston that involved Diggs took place, this game has been circled on many calendars.
Both teams have an advantage in some way, but the Bills have a concern with their injuries that could hurt them in this game. While Sean McDermott has done a great job at getting the next man up to speed, it can only happen for so long. He and defensive coordinator Bobby Babich will be looking to get after Stroud early and often to limit the explosiveness that Houston’s offense has.
With Buffalo’s offense, they need to be prepared for two Texans’ ferocious pass-rushers in Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. coming off the edge. This should be an exciting matchup for both fanbases, and it might even be a little emotional as well.
We had the chance to catch up with Texans expert Randy Gurzi this week to discuss specific insights about this game.
Bills vs. Texans Week 5 insights
1.) Do you believe that Stefon Diggs will have a breakout game against his old team?
I can see that happening. Diggs and C.J. Stroud have been starting to click and it feels like a matter of time before Diggs explodes. As Bills’ fans know, he can be an emotional player and as much as he wants to say this is just another game, it’s going to mean more to him.
2.) What are some weaknesses that you believe C.J. Stroud has that Buffalo could attack to make life harder for him?
Stroud is playing lights out right now but he’s still a young player. If the Bills want to exploit anything, they have to try and confuse him with disguised coverage/blitz combinations. If they allow him to get into a rhythm, it could be tough to slow him down.
3.) Houston's pass-defense has been outstanding to this point in not allowing anyone to throw for over 200 yards. What does this defense need to do in order to keep that streak going against Josh Allen?
Just do what they do best. Keep bringing the heat and force the ball out in a hurry. If they try and switch things up because they’re facing a superstar, they can get themselves in trouble.
4.) Who would you consider the Texans' X-factor for this game and why?
Houston is going to have to lean on Cam Akers with Joe Mixon out and Dameon Pierce questionable. Houston is an excellent passing team but to sustain drives and keep Allen off the field, they need to be able to move the chains on the ground. Akers hasn’t been the player we saw early in his career, but this is the game where he needs to find his old form in order for his team to have success.
