Safety Lewis Cine flips decision to sign with Bills rather than AFC East rival
By Brandon Ray
The Buffalo Bills are making headlines for a great reason today. With the roster cuts becoming official this past week across the league, there has been a lot of movement with players signing with various teams, whether it is the final 53-man roster or the practice squad. The Bills managed to fill out their final 53-man roster as well as practice squad. However, their work is not done yet.
Early on Thursday, news broke via Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport that former Minnesota Vikings safety intends to sign with the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad. However, the best part about this news is that it was reported that Cine was initially going to sign with the New York Jets before flipping his decision.
Seeing Buffalo making moves when it comes to the secondary should be no surprise, seeing as how they have already gone through injuries throughout training camp and preseason. Not to mention, who knows how the unit will be without the presence of Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer.
Cine was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Georgia. In just two years, Cine has never started a game and has only seen action in ten total games. It’s no surprise to see him off the VIkings’ roster. However, the Bills are willing to see what he can offer on the practice squad.
Lewis Cine choosing the Bills over the Jets is no surprise
The Bills are a more stable organization with not as much noise as the Jets. They have won the AFC East the last four seasons and have a head coach in Sean McDermott that was a defensive back himself in college and has helped develop defenders in his defensive system since arriving in Buffalo.
While Cine is not expected to be a great impactful player, he is a former first round pick that maybe just hasn’t had the right opportunity. With him coming to the Bills, he will get a fresh start and just help the team get ready for game days, as well as improve his game.
