2. Defensive End

Brandon Beane has used more than his fair share of top draft picks on the position with varying degrees of success. In 2021, the Bills drafted Greg Rousseau with their first-round pick and that pick has looked really good with the potential to get better this upcoming season depending on how Rousseau plays.

Another pick that has turned out pretty well was in 2020 when the Bills drafted A.J. Epenesa with their second-round pick, which ended up being the first pick that draft due to the Stefon Diggs trade. However, the selection of Boogie Basham back in 2021 was a big miss and probably one of the worst by Beane as general manager.

The defensive end position is one that usually costs a big part of the salary cap with the contracts the top pass rushers get. For teams that can get a productive player on a rookie contract, that gives them an advantage to use the extra cap space at other parts of the roster.

There are a number of defensive ends that could make sense for the Bills and this is one of the reasons it is one of the more likely positions they draft in the first round.
