Tuesday was more than just your typical off-day for most NFL veterans. Instead, it became the official start of the Davante Adams trade saga, and the Buffalo Bills could certainly play a role.
It all began after Adams missed this past week's game with a mysterious hamstring injury which popped up late in the week, and then his head coach, Antonio Pierce, went out and "liked" a post on social media which speculated over the wide receiver having played his final snaps with the team.
Fast forward to Tuesday afternoon, and Adams had officially requested a trade. He wants out of Las Vegas, and the Bills are a team that could be in contention for his services.
Almost immediately after the request, everybody started pointing to Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets for obvious reasons. Adams reuniting with Rodgers in New York seems to be a highly logical and likely scenario. Although, the Bills would be able to pull off one of the funniest and significant trades in franchise history if they simply made one phone call.
Proposed trade sends Davante Adams to the Buffalo Bills and multiple picks back to the Raiders
The Raiders reportedly want a second-round pick plus "additional compensation" in exchange for Adams, so the bidding officially starts with that second rounder.
If the Bills wanted to get it done and over with by making a trade that Vegas couldn't refuse, it would look something like this.
More Bills news:
I would venture to guess that most teams who wanted Adams will offer a second rounder, plus a combination of later round picks, in all likelihood.
This deal would be a hefty haul to give up if you're Buffalo, but adding one of the game's best wide receivers and a future Hall of Fame inductee is well-worth the draft compensation. If I'm Brandon Beane, I don't hesitate in offering a package like this, especially considering the Bills have a pair of fourth-round picks in 2025 and would still have one left over.
In doing this, the Bills would not only ruin a division rival's plans in the Jets, but in a way, they'd also be righting a wrong from this past year's draft when they allowed the Kansas City Chiefs to trade up for Xavier Worthy.
Many people wondered just why in the world the Bills, of all teams, would make that trade with the Chiefs. Well, the Chiefs are now hurting without their top two wide receivers in Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice, and it's all on Worthy's shoulders.
The Chiefs aren't the only team that could use wide receiver help, but the Raiders would never be caught dead trading Adams to a division rival -- at least, that seems highly unlikely.
Buffalo going out and getting Adams would be a gigantic smack in the face of both the Jets and Chiefs, while bolstering this team's championship odds.
Go make it happen, Mr. Beane.
