There is almost nothing worse than for a team building momentum to try and score, just to let it fall apart due to a turnover. No matter the sport, it is a gut punch if your favorite team commits a turnover and the momentum goes down the drain. Within the NFL, this can include an interception or fumble. No matter what plays out, there is almost nothing worse than being on the wrong side of a turnover.

The Buffalo Bills are no strangers to being in those predicaments. There have been plenty of times where the Bills have had to try and comeback to win a game, only to lose the game away on a meaningless turnover. With the way the AFC has become a powerhouse, the Bills cannot afford to lose games because of turnovers. One Bills player that will be tested big time to hang onto the ball throughout the season is running back James Cook.

Coming off his first 1,000+ rushing yard season last season, Cook will once again be relied on to carry the rushing attack that will also feature Ty Johnson and rookie Ray Davis. While Cook can be electric on the field, he has shown an area of weakness that he needs to improve on. Over the past two years, Cook has had a little bit of an issue with ball security. He has five fumbles in his career and also has nine career drops in the receiving game.

Ball security is an issue with Cook

Throughout Bills training camp, Cook has been a little bit under the radar which can be considered a good thing. However, his ball security has yet again become an issue and it continued on near the end of training camp according to Alex Brasky.

While training camp is the perfect time for mistakes, Cook should not be having these issues again with protecting the football. As he heads into his third season, he will need to make sure that he is not the reason why Buffalo turns the ball over. He is an unbelievable player who can take over a game (just ask the Dallas Cowboys from last year). At the same time, he cannot be a liability because he can’t protect the ball.

It might be important to get Cook some preseason reps to get any rust off with the ball security. Allowing him to get some live on-field action against players that are not on his team could be the perfect solution to help him fix this problem.
