How much should you expect Josh Allen to play in the preseason?

When the preseason arrives next Saturday, August 10th for the Buffalo Bills, Highmark Stadium is going to be loud and electric. Even though the game won’t count for anything other than reps for backups, it is still football and having it is better than not. One of the only down sides to the preseason is that a lot of star players usually don’t play a lot, or at all. It makes sense without question, but it creates more of an excitement for the regular season because there is nothing better than two teams going against each other with their best.

The Bills kickoff their preseason schedule hosting the Chicago Bears. As of right now, we don’t know who is going to play for both teams. Maybe each player gets atleast a drive or two, maybe some don’t even suit up. It will all be up to the coaching staff for both teams.

When Sean McDermott and the coaching staff are putting together a game plan for the Bills, there should atleast be a conversation on whether or not Josh Allen will be featured in preseason. Allen only played in one preseason game last year against the Pittsburgh Steelers and it was a rough outing for Buffalo overall.

It is important to see Allen on the field in preseason

It is important for Allen to get some reps at some point in the preseason. While Bills fans will see a lot more Mitch Trubisky and Shane Buechele, Allen should be hitting the field for atleast a drive or two. Maybe he is featured next Saturday for Buffalo, or maybe McDermott decides to go with just Trubisky and Buechele against the Bears.

However, this doesn’t mean that the Bills should be reckless with Allen. Let’s face facts, the Bills offense runs through Allen and if he were to get injured in a meaningless game, the Bills would be doomed. Plain and simple as that. They just need to make sure that if Allen has any kind of rust, he is able to get rid of it and also give a potential preview of what is to come once Week 1 rolls around.

Bills Mafia, it is almost that time. The season is literally right around the corner and the Bills will be able to hit someone else that isn’t each other. As long as the Bills can avoid any major injury, the 2024 season is going to be a fun ride.
