Grading Josh Allen's Week 2 performance vs. Miami Dolphins

It was a quiet night for Josh Allen, but that's okay.

One of the best feelings in the NFL is getting a win without your star player having to do all of the work. For the past six seasons, the Buffalo Bills have been Josh Allen-reliant in a majority of their games. It is very rare to see the Bills win a game without heroic play by their star quarterback. That rare moment took place in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins where the Bills won 31-10 and Allen had a quiet night.

After injuring his left hand last week against the Arizona Cardinals, Bills fans were wondering how Allen was going to perform against Miami. It turns out that Allen just needed to do the minimum and it was actually the James Cook show.

Josh Allen didn’t need to play Superman vs. Miami Dolphins

Each week, it seems like we see some sort of Allen highlight. While it is fun to watch (especially in a Bills win), sometimes it is nice to watch others take the lead in a Buffalo win. This game was all about running the ball and playing the takeaway game on defense.

Allen would finish his Week 2 performance 13/19 for 139 yards and one score. Seeing as how his hand injury happened not even a week ago, it’s not surprising to see him have a more reserved game. The last time he had limited production was in Week 15 last year against the Dallas Cowboys, where it was Cook once again that dominated Dallas.

For the second consecutive week, Joe Brady’s philosophy of letting everyone eat comes true. Even though Cook was the star of the show, we saw Dalton Kincaid get more involved than last week and we even saw a little bit of hard running by rookie back Ray Davis.

At the end of the day, the Bills got the win within the division and Allen avoided injuring his hand even more. Considering that Allen’s injury may have changed the playbook just a little bit, he still delivered for the offense and played smart football.
