Grading Josh Allen's Week 1 performance vs. Cardinals

It was a wild roller coaster game for the Buffalo Bills against the Arizona Cardinals. They looked sluggish in the first half and were down 17-3 at one point. The defense couldn’t stop a nosebleed, and the offense didn’t get into the endzone until the end of the second quarter. The Bills were in serious trouble at one point, but then something clicked.

It was the activation of MVP-level Josh Allen. While his stats don’t scream MVP nominee, his game tape shows the complete opposite. Allen was involved in every touchdown that the Bills scored in this game. Allen had four total touchdowns on the day, and finished with 232 passing yards, along with 39 yards on the ground.

Allen put the Bills on his back and helped lead them to victory over a feisty Cardinals team. It was a favorable matchup for Allen, seeing as how Arizona has had one of the worst defensive units from last season. While they added various pieces to help boost it up, it wasn’t enough to keep Allen from taking over the second half.

Allen was able to spread the ball out to nine different options in the passing attack, which helped create a good balance that Arizona couldn’t contain. He showed that even if the Bills are down by multiple scores, he can weather the storm and take charge to keep Buffalo in the game.

The only thing that is concerning now is that on Allen’s final touchdown of the game, he hurdled a defender into the endzone but ended up injuring his hand. It was heavily wrapped up in the final minutes of the game and now he will be looking at getting x-rays according to Dom Tibbetts.

While the Bills wait to get confirmation on Allen’s injury, all we can do for now is look at Allen played Superman for Buffalo and the result is starting out the season 1-0.
