Colin Cowherd proves that Dolphins screwed themselves with Tua Tagovailoa extension

It's about time someone said it.

It has just been a few days since Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa finally got the contract extension that he had been holding out for from the Dolphins. The two sides agreed to a four-year deal worth $212.4 million (with an average of $53.1 million per year). The Dolphins and Tua were at a big stalemate for many months after there had been rumors about the Dolphins not offering Tua what he wanted. However, the Dolphins caved and ended up paying him big time.

He is one of those quarterbacks where if he has a great situation around him, he can produce like he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. The one problem with that is that he cannot play off script as well as others, which causes limitations for him and the offense. Despite Mike McDaniel being a great play caller, there is only so much a team can do if the quarterback cannot go off script.

Miami’s offense is centered around speed with Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Raheem Mostert, and De’Von Achane. Once that speed is contained, life becomes more difficult for Tua. Not only that, but when the weather becomes a factor, Tua becomes even more limited once it starts to get colder in the year. Colin Cowherd from “The Herd” talked about how the weather is a bad factor for Tua once it starts to get into the cold months.

Cowherd broke down the info on Tua’s stats when he plays in games that are higher than 50 degrees and what his production is in games under 50 degrees. It’s not even a close comparison.

The Buffalo Bills have contributed to Tua's downfall in cold weather

The Bills have played against Tua twice in cold weather and have dominated him and the Dolphins. In those two games, Tua has thrown for 595 yards, 3 touchdowns and 4 turnovers. That was just against Buffalo, making it even more clear that Tua cannot compete in colder weather.

Cowherd proves that Tua is not a legit franchise quarterback

In order to be one of the top quarterbacks of the league, there has to be results of being able to lead your team to victory no matter what the conditions are. Tom Brady did it for two decades in New England, Patrick Mahomes is doing it now for the Kansas City Chiefs, and Josh Allen has proven that he can do it for the Bills. Sure, it helps that they play in colder areas as compared to sunny Miami. However, the great quarterbacks are prepared for any kind of weather to win.

If the Dolphins make the playoffs as long as Tua is under center, they are going to have to play teams like the Bills, Chiefs, and Bengals. All of whom play in colder regions. With Miami giving the contract extension to Tua, they have severely limited themselves with any kind of postseason success from here on out.
