Buffalo set to host three former Bills in Week 3 primetime matchup

Coming off an amazing Week 2 performance against the Miami Dolphins, the Buffalo Bills are back in primetime for a Week 3 matchup against Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bills are back in front of their home crowd for a Monday Night Football showdown. Heading into this game at 2-0, Buffalo will be looking to keep their momentum going against a team that has had their number the last few seasons.

Jacksonville has defeated Buffalo in their last two meets (9-6 in 2021 and 25-20 in 2023). The Bills have played down in both of these games and allowed Jacksonville to take what should have been easy wins for Buffalo. The matchup between these two in 2021 was in Jacksonville, and then in 2023 it was across the pond in London. Now the Jaguars are coming to Buffalo so we’ll see if they really just do have the Bills’ number.

Now only are the Bills hosting notable names like Trevor Lawrence and Josh Hines-Allen, but they will be seeing three former Bills as well (two of them being on Buffalo’s roster last season).

WR Gabe Davis

Drafted in the 4th round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Davis provided a lot of up-and-down production for the Bills. Each season, he would have that one breakout game and then disappear from the offense. His best game as a Bill came in the 2021-2022 playoffs against the Kansas City Chiefs where he had 8 catches for 201 yards and 4 scores. Aside from that major breakout game, he only has a handful of productive games.

He joined the Jaguars this past offseason, inking a three-year, $39 million deal. Will Davis have a breakout revenge game, or will he be quiet like he was in Buffalo a majority of his time? There is only one way to find out.

C Mitch Morse

The Bills signed center Mitch Morse in 2019 to start the revamp of the offensive line to protect Josh Allen. Brandon Beane was able to start building up the protection by acquiring Morse who was protecting Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. For many seasons in Buffalo, Morse was the anchor of the offensive line and helped Allen become the player he currently is.

As much as Morse provided value for the Bills, he also developed a little bit of an injury history down the stretch. There were a handful of times where Morse was kept off the field due to some sort of injury which caused some shuffling on the offensive line.

After being released by Buffalo this offseason, he signed with the Jaguars to a two-year, $10.5 million deal.

CB Ronald Darby

Going back to 2015, the Bills drafted Ronald Darby in the second round and he had a phenomenal rookie season. He finished second in voting in the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award, losing out to Marcus Peters. However, his tenure with Buffalo was very short. Darby would play in Buffalo for just two seasons as he was traded in the 2017 offseason to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Since being traded out of Buffalo, Darby has been with Philadelphia, Washington, Denver, Baltimore, and now Jacksonville.
