3 veterans who won't make Bills roster Week 1

Going into the 2023 NFL season, the Buffalo Bills are one of the select few teams that can, unequivocally, say they are a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Much of their roster looks "figured out," at this point, so to speak.

But, there are a few end-of-roster positions that may be up for grabs. In those spots will come either undrafted rookies or journeymen type veterans fighting for a job.

At the tail end of the roster, though, there are a few veterans who will find themselves left off that final roster. We preview three of them.

1. Alec Anderson, OT

Up front, the Bills' two starting offensive tackles are Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown. They're unquestioned in their starting roles, of course. Behind those two are 2021 fifth-round pick Tommy Doyle and veteran David Quessenberry.

If the Bills keep four tackles, those are likely going to be the guys. Ryan Van Demark would be the next guy up if there was anyone to challenge Doyle and Quessenberry, followed by 31-year-old Brandon Shell whom the Bills signed in free agency earlier this offseason.

Just to put things in perspective with how far out of reach veteran Alec Anderson is here, it's he and undrafted free agent Richard Gouraige sitting last on the depth chart. Anderson has been off and on as a practice squad member since going undrafted last year, and the practice squad will be his best hope for this season, too, considering the depth ahead of him.

Anderson has yet to see any NFL action after going undrafted out of UCLA.
