The Buffalo Bills have kicked off their preparation for the 2023 season with organized team activities this week. The three weeks of OTAs are voluntary and some players, like Stefon Diggs, have not been in attendance.

This shouldn't be too much of a concern at this point of the offseason and all indications have been that Stefon Diggs is not holding out and will be in attendance for everything that is mandatory. If there is a positive to Diggs' absence is that it creates opportunities for other wide receivers to get more reps and familiar with the offense.

One of those wide receivers that have benefited from those extra reps is Trent Sherfield, who was signed as a free agent this offseason by the Buffalo Bills. On Tuesday, Josh Allen noted Sherfield's performance to date and has been impressed:

"Trent Sherfield getting a lot of the Z reps and learning this offense. I've loved what I've seen from Trent so far. The dude works extremely hard, he's one of the hardest-working guys on the team. He doesn't complain about anything and he's rolling right now"

Sherfield was an undrafted free agent signing in 2018 by the Arizona Cardinals and has also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins. During his NFL career, Sherfield has primarily been a special teams player but this past season had his best season as a receiver with 30 receptions, 417 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

While the depth chart at wide receiver is very crowded on the Buffalo Bills roster, Sherfield's chances to make the 53-man roster is only increasing with his early performance at OTAs. He likely is going to step into the role Jake Kumerow held last season and be a key contributor on special teams.

However, with his performance being noticed by Josh Allen, which is also probably being noticed by Ken Dorsey, he could also have a role in this offense this coming season.
