Will Kaiir Elam be the starter opposite Tre'Davious White?
A perfect example of rookies not being given starting spots is last year with cornerback Kaiir Elam. The Bills' first round pick seemed like it would be a guarantee that he would be a starter with where he was drafted and the fact that Buffalo would begin the season without Tre'Davious White.
That wasn't the case and he was splitting reps with Christian Benford opposite Dane Jackson to being the season. As the year went along, Elam would get more snaps and essentially be the starter in the playoffs for this defense.
The assumption entering this season is that Kaiir Elam should be the full-time starter but that may not end up being the case with Tre'Davious White fully healthy, Dane Jackson returning, Christian Benford still on the roster, and the team recently adding former third round pick Cameron Dantzler.
There is no question that Elam has the most potential in this group but he will certainly have to earn his spot this summer in the starting lineup.
