Over halfway finished with training camp and with their first preseason game coming up on August 12th, the Buffalo Bills have had training camp battles happening, star plays, poor plays, and injury updates as well. One of those injury updates involved Bills offensive tackle Spencer Brown, who has had a mini history of injuries early on in his career.

According to Joe Marino, after the Bills finished up practice on Thursday, Brown was seen in “obvious stiffness” and could not even bend over to pick up his helmet. Marino also mentioned that Brown was surrounded by multiple trainers to assist him.

Since being drafted to the Bills in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft, the offensive tackle has taken a step back in his rookie deal with the Bills. He has not played more than 14 games in the last two seasons, and suffered a back injury in 2021, which seemed to bother him going into last season. Along with that, Brown also dealt with an ankle injury last season.

If Brown did indeed affect his back again in training camp, that is not a good look with week one approaching. The Bills already have arguably the most pressure on them within their super bowl window to win it all this season. Part of that pressure is being able to protect Josh Allen in the pocket and allowing minimal pressure. Brown has shown to be inconsistent and not as effective in pass protection as the Bills want him to be.

What does this potential injury mean for the Buffalo Bills?

If Brown is indeed injured and it shows throughout the rest of training camp, the next scenario to wonder is if Brown will even start in week one against the New York Jets. The Bills have backups Brandon Shell, who they signed in free agency this offseason, and David Quessenberry who was with the Bills last season and saw action in games that Brown did not play in.

This is a true situation to monitor for the Bills and for Brown as training camp progresses and the week one matchup slowly approaches.
