Gives Buffalo Bills at least one long-term answer at defensive tackle

Another reason to like the extension for Ed Oliver is that it gives the Buffalo Bills at least one long-term answer at defensive tackle. The Bills entered this season with essentially the same position group aside from the addition of Poona Ford, who they signed after the NFL Draft.

The concern with this group was that prior to this extension, there was not a single defensive tackle under contract after the 2023 season. The Bills were entering this year with DaQuan Jones, Tim Settle, Jordan Phillips and Ford all playing in the final year of their respective contracts.

The extension of Ed Oliver now gives the Buffalo Bills at least one starter to build around on the interior of that defensive line. Among the current group of defensive tackles, Ed Oliver seemed the least likely to return and should be easier next offseason to fill out the position.
