The Buffalo Bills weren't really able to make any big splashes this offseason due in large part to limited cap space. However, general manager Brandon Beane was very methodical and did a good job rounding out the roster by adding depth at key positions.
While the start of the regular season is still two months away, the roster is pretty well set at this point. These are five positions that are probably the deepest on the roster which is good news as they have a lot of talent and are in a better position to deal with injuries if they arise.
However, it also creates challenges when it is time to cut down the roster. The Bills are likely going to find themselves having to cut some really good players.
Ranking the 5 deepest positions on the Buffalo Bills 2023 roster
5. Safety
The first one is the safety position which has been a strength of this defense since Sean McDermott joined the Bills. The reason is because they signed Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer as free agents and these two have been one of the best safety duos in the league.
The biggest question has always been the depth at the position because Hyde and Poyer have been very durable and usually the backups haven't played significant snaps. That changed last year as Hyde and Poyer missed numerous games and that opened the door for someone like Damar Hamlin to show he is capable of being a starter in this defense.
While Damar Hamlin is a question mark as he works his way back from his injury last season, the Bills have a number of other safeties that should round out the position. They signed former second round pick Taylor Rapp, who was a starter for the Rams the past two seasons.
If Hamlin is not ready to return, the Bills have also brought back Dean Marlowe and as the fourth (or fifth) safety on this depth chart they have solidified this position.
