Buffalo Bills' playoff chances get some help during bye week
The Buffalo Bills were on bye in Week 13 and were on the outside of the playoffs looking in. They probably weren't going to move up into a playoff spot but they could have gotten closer depending on how some games went.
They did get some help but the teams directly ahead of them mostly came away with a win. The most notable game in Week 13 was the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans as they were entering this game 6-5 and right in front of the Bills.
The Texans came away with a win and moved the Broncos to 6-6 but since Denver beat Buffalo they have the head-to-head tiebreaker. Even though they are still ahead of them, this is good news for Bills because they are essentially only one game ahead and not two.
The Indianapolis Colts entered the week in the seventh and final playoff spot but were able to sneak out a win in overtime over the Tennessee Titans to remain 7-5. The other two current Wild Card teams, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns, both lost and have the same record as the Colts at 7-5.
Buffalo Bills have big game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday
The Buffalo Bills don't necessarily need to win out but the game against the Chiefs is not one they can lose. The Chiefs lost to the Green Bay Packers and now are 8-4 but for the Bills, and where they are in the AFC, tiebreakers are going to be a big factor.
In past years, this game would determine seeding in the AFC but the focus for the Buffalo Bills is to just get in. The reason this game is critical is because their conference record, which is one of the tiebreakers, is not great at 3-5.
The good news is that four of the final five games is within the conference so the Bills will have a chance to improve this record but it has to start Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
