Buffalo Bills Rumors: Could Brandon Aiyuk be a trade option for the Bills?
The NFL Draft isn't the only avenue the team has to address the wide receiver position and they could try to swing a trade for a veteran. The most likely candidates would be the Bengals' Tee Higgins or the 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk and between the two Aiyuk could make the most sense.
Brandon Aiyuk is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is looking for a new contract. However, those discussions may not be going well and according to Clayton Holloway of NFL Network, he has recently unfollowed the 49ers on Instagram.
As Bills fans know all too well with Stefon Diggs, social media posts and activity could mean nothing but could also be a signal of a deeper issue.
If the Buffalo Bills want to make a trade for Brandon Aiyuk, it would be incredibly tough to get a deal done. The reason is that the Bills don't have the cap space to take on the roughly $14 million cap hit that Aiyuk's contract currently holds.
Any trade would require all parties to get creative because the Bills probably only do a trade if they believe they can work out a long-term deal with Aiyuk. This would give Aiyuk what he wants and for the Bills it would lower his cap hit this year but give them a clear replacement for Stefon Diggs.
One potential resolution could be waiting until after June 1st since Tre'Davious White's release can be finalized and the cap space would now be available. However, the 49ers may not want to wait that long because they would not be able to acquire any draft picks in this year's draft.
It is an interesting situation to watch and if the Bills don't draft a wide receiver early, it would only increase those chances of a trade during the summer months.
