The Buffalo Bills have been taking a close look at wide receivers during the NFL Combine ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. Gabe Davis is expected to leave in free agency and this will leave a big hole at the position after Stefon Diggs.
One of the wide receivers that was on the radar for the Bills was Xavier Worthy out of the University of Texas. Earlier in the week, Worthy reportedly said he had a formal meeting with the Bills according to Josh Reed with WIVB.
In three seasons with the Longhorns, Worthy appeared in 39 games and had 197 receptions, 2,755 receiving yards and 26 receiving touchdowns.
However, he made headlines at the NFL Combine on Saturday night with an NFL Combine record in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.21 seconds. The previous record was set by John Ross with a time of 4.22 seconds.
Xavier Worthy would address a major need for the Buffalo Bills offense
One thing that the Buffalo Bills didn't really have last season was a deep threat that can run over the top of the secondary. The Bills hoped that Deonte Harty might be that answer but he was not involved enough to make much of an impact.
it is surprising that the offense didn't have more speed, especially when considering the arm that Josh Allen has. There aren't many players that would be able to outrun a Josh Allen deep ball but Worthy could be that receiver.
However, the player that previously held the record provides a cautionary tale for the Buffalo Bills as they can't just look at his incredible speed. Ross possessed similar speed but was never able to make an impact in the NFL even though he was a first round pick.
The biggest concern with Worthy is going to be his size as he weighed in at 165 pounds, which was lower than his listed weight last season at Texas. For people that believe he is a late first round pick or second round pick, they will point to the impact Tank Dell had last season with the Texans as they have similar body shapes.
It will be interesting to see where Xavier Worthy ends up being drafted but after Saturday, he should be squarely on the Buffalo Bills radar for the 2024 NFL Draft.
