Jay Riemersma - Buffalo Bills

Jay Riemersma was the 244th pick in the seventh round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.  He remained with the team until 2002, playing in 112 total games while starting 73.  His career totals of 204 receptions, 2,304 yards, and 20 touchdowns all rank second in Bills history for tight ends.

Among all pass catchers throughout Bills’ history, he ranks 16th in receptions (204), 23rd in receiving yards (2,304), and tied for 14th in touchdowns (20).  Riemersma’s best season came in 2001 when he recorded 53 receptions on 78 targets and 590 yards, with three touchdowns.  His career best of six touchdowns was accomplished in the 1998 season.

Like Metzelaars, Riemersma was never voted to an All-Pro or Pro Bowl team.  The Bills have had only four players listed as tight ends make a Pro Bowl roster and three of those four were in the 1960s.

The Buffalo Bills released Riemersma on February 27th, 2002, and he later signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers about a month later.  He continued his career with the Steelers for another two seasons but started only nine games.  He retired after the 2004 season with 221 receptions, 2,524 yards, and 23 touchdowns.
