Entering the 2023 season, the Buffalo Bills Top 3 wide receivers were Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis and most likely Deonte Harty. However, less than one year later the position is going to look very different as the team has moved on from all three.
One of them was not necessarily their decision as Gabe Davis got a significant contract in free agency. Meanwhile, Deonte Harty didn't develop into that deep threat the team hoped he could be when they signed him and the Bills released him last month.
The biggest surprise undoubtedly is Stefon Diggs, who was traded to the Houston Texans, as he has been the team's top receiver since the Bills traded with the Minnesota Vikings for him in 2020. He has been Josh Allen's go-to target and now there are 262 vacated targets from last season with those three players no longer on the roster.
Updated depth chart for the Buffalo Bills at wide receiver after Stefon Diggs' trade
WR1: Khalil Shakir
WR2: Curtis Samuel
WR3: Mack Hollins
WR4: Justin Shorter
WR5: Andy Isabella
WR6: KJ Hamler
The recent trade of Stefon Diggs certainly leaves a big hole at the top of the depth chart. By default, it probably is Khalil Shakir, who finished the season very strong and was one of Josh Allen's more reliable pass-catchers. Although a case can be made that tight end Dalton Kincaid will be Allen's top passing target for the upcoming season based on the current roster.
After Shakir, Curtis Samuel is the next likely receiver on the depth chart and the free agent addition could have an even bigger role this upcoming season. After these two it definitely gets less clear as it will be a competition between Mack Hollins and 2023 fifth round pick Justin Shorter.
The remaining depth chart will include Andy Isabella and KJ Hamler. However, it is highly unlikely this will be the final depth chart and the Bills probably will begin re-visiting free agent wide receivers but focus more on drafting a wide receiver early in the 2024 NFL Draft.
