Bills trade Stefon Diggs to Texans in blockbuster deal: Full details and grade
By Ryan Heckman
For a while now, Buffalo Bills fans have had to deal with the speculation regarding wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Much of the rumors and questions that have been raised, over time, have stemmed from Diggs' social media activity and his visible frustration on the sidelines at times.
And, after much of the fan base has rolled their eyes in doubt that anything substantial would ever happen, we've come to this.
The Bills have traded wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans and now face a harsh reality
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the trade to send Diggs to the Houston Texans returns a 2025 second-round pick to Buffalo.
Yep, that's it.
A few years after Buffalo traded a first, fourth, fifth and sixth rounder in exchange for Diggs and a seventh-round pick, they recouped a second rounder in this deal with Houston. And, it's not even a pick the Bills can use this year. The pick will come in 2025.
Not to mention, the Texans are a team on the rise, so that second rounder is likely to be later on in the round.
The Bills already saw free agent receiver Gabe Davis exit Buffalo via free agency. For his replacement, the Bills signed Curtis Samuel in free agency.
But now? There is a gaping hole at the position.
Not only are the Bills without one of the top wide receivers in the game, but they hardly have depth whatsoever at the position. What will they do? That's the big question, now.
Buffalo owns the no. 28 pick in the draft and likely won't be able to land one of the top four wideouts in this year's 2024 NFL Draft class.
It looks like Brandon Beane is going to have to get creative.
As for grading the move? With the details we have right now, there's no other way to put it: this deal gets a near-failing grade. The Bills just parted with one of the best wide receivers in football after an offseason that saw them lose several key veterans as well. The window appears to be closed.
Grade: D
