There is a good argument to be made that the AFC East could easily become the toughest division in football. There is no “clear cut” favorite to take the division as it looks like the Buffalo Bills have taken a step back with their losses this offseason. The biggest threats to the Bills are the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets. No one is expecting the New England Patriots to make a run at the division so the Bills should only expect Miami and New York to be right behind them.
However, the Jets have the most pressure on them as a team as compared to Buffalo and Miami. They are the definition of going all in this season. With their season going down the drain in four plays last season, Aaron Rodgers is returning from his torn achilles injury and the Jets have addressed their offensive line by signing Tyron Smith, trading for Morgan Moses, and drafting Olu Fashanu. On paper, the Jets have a very talented roster but paper means nothing.
While some fans and analysts are high believers in the Jets, there is the other side that believe that the Jets will once again fall short of expectations. Alex Ballentine from Bleacher Report created a list of five teams that are most likely to disappoint in 2024 and behold, the Jets are featured on this list.
Putting faith into a head coach that is clearly coaching for his job and a quarterback coming off a major injury is a massive risk for the Jets. All it takes is a little slip up at any point that could cost the Jets their 2024 season and we start to see some major changes in the organization.
"That brings us to 2024. Rodgers is back in the fold, but it's fair to wonder if Robert Saleh and his coaching staff are able to get the most out of this roster.Alex Ballentine, Bleacher Report
It's also fairly ironic that there solution on the offensive tackle positions were to sign Tyron Smith and trade for Morgan Moses. Smith has missed at least a few games in every season since 2015 and Moses is 33 years old. Drafting Olu Fashanu gives them a good swing tackle option, but the health of the offensive line could still be big."
The Jets have a lot more to lose than any team in the AFC East
The Jets have been getting major media attention since Rodgers arrived in New York and the hype has been nowhere to be found. This upcoming season is the last chance for the Jets to get the best out of their roster that is going to become increasingly expensive in the next few years. Not to mention, they don’t have a plan at quarterback outside of Rodgers for development. This is it for the Jets. It’s time to go big or go home and there is a better chance at them going home than taking the league by surprise.
