Bills fans should not wait around for a Micah Hyde return to Buffalo

One of the toughest things to accept about a business is that tough decisions are made all the time, no matter who or what it involves. Within the NFL, fan favorites and long-time franchise players eventually leave a team after years of success but it is all part of the process. The Buffalo Bills are no exception to this setup.

Over the years, Bills fans have seen players come and go. Some were just stopping in Buffalo temporarily and others became cornerstone players that helped turn the franchise around. One of those players was safety Micah Hyde, who signed with the Bills back in 2017 after starting out his career with the Green Bay Packers.

Hyde’s presence was instantly noticed, along with Jordan Poyer. This duo became one of, if not the best safety combo in the league for years. They both not only provided skill on the defense, but their leadership was out of this world. Buffalo’s defensive strength was always in the secondary, mainly because of these two players. However, neither of them are currently suiting up for the Bills.

Poyer left Buffalo and joined the rival Miami Dolphins, while Hyde is not signed to any team. Up to this point, we know that Hyde is either going to play football in Buffalo or not play at all. With that said, Bills fans should not be sitting around and waiting for the news that Hyde is back on the team.

According to Maddy Glab, Brandon Beane commented on Hyde’s future in Buffalo and how nothing has changed. Beane said that Hyde is “staying ready should the right opportunity come”.

It would be a great reunion, but it is time to move on

There is no doubt that Hyde’s leadership would be greatly impactful on this new-look secondary. Damar Hamlin, Taylor Rapp, Mike Edwards, and Cole Bishop are the top safeties on this roster. Adding Hyde back in would more than likely affect one of these guys’ roster spots though. At the same time, even if an opportunity did come up for Hyde to rejoin the team, sometimes it is best to not always live in the past.

Hyde has had some major injuries the last couple of seasons and there is an argument that he may have lost a step. Unless the Bills wanted to bring him back just for leadership purposes, Buffalo needs to focus on the future more than the past.
