B/R completely misses on Bills' biggest roster need heading into Week 5
By Brandon Ray
The Buffalo Bills need to lick their wounds and move on from their pathetic Week 4 performance against the Baltimore Ravens. They are still 3-1 and on top of the AFC East. However, they will now prepare for another road test as they head down to Houston to take on the Texans.
It was a humbling experience for the Bills and that is more than fine. It’s better to make mistakes now and clean it up as midseason starts to slowly approach. At the same time, Sunday night showed us that the Bills have a lot to clean up.
The Bills have had to deal with multiple injuries on the defense and not having players like Matt Milano, Taron Johnson, and Terrel Bernard on the field showed how weak the Bills defense can truly be.
The Bleacher Report (BR) NFL Scouting Department posted the biggest needs heading into Week 5 for each NFL team and they completely got the Bills “add now” selection. The Bills were suggested to add offensive tackle Donovan Smith, with backup tackle Tylan Grable hitting the IR after Week 3.
"The idea of a Super Bowl contender turning to someone with as little experience as Van Demark in the case of an injury to their tackle is scary. The Bills need to be thinking ahead about what they would do in the case that Dion Dawkins or Spencer Brown were to get injured. Signing veteran Donovan Smith, who just got done starting for the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs, would be a good move."

The Bills need to focus on depth at linebacker
Seeing Matt Milano go through another year of not playing for the Bills is already bad enough. Then seeing Terrel Bernard get injured in Week 2 and missing the last two games really weakens the defense. While Dorian Williams and Baylon Spector have been solid in stopping the run, they do not provide the versatility to play coverage against receivers and tight ends.
Even though Bernard should be returning very soon for Buffalo, Brandon Beane may want to explore finding a versatile linebacker through a trade or free agency. Versatility is something that Sean McDermott loves to have and Week 4 showed us that Williams and Spector just simply don’t have the skillset to be like Bernard and Milano.
While Bleacher Report does make a point about bringing in extra help at offensive tackle, Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown are doing just fine and they have been healthy the last year. The biggest need is on the defense and it starts at linebacker.
