B/R analysis of Buffalo Bills heading into Week 5 couldn't be more wrong
By Brandon Ray
The Buffalo Bills were brought back to planet Earth in Week 4 at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens, losing 35-10 on primetime. The Bills have had this past week to lick their wounds and get ready to turn their attention to C.J. Stroud, Stefon Diggs, and the rest of the Houston Texans. Coming in at 3-1, the Bills are still amongst the top teams in the league.
Both Houston and Buffalo have suffered blowout losses this season, but what really separates both teams is their wins. In Buffalo’s three wins, they have outscored their opponents 112-48. In that stretch, Josh Allen and the Bills showed that they can win from behind and dominate the game from start to finish.
With the Texans three wins, they have only outscored their opponents 72-60. While winning is what matters at the end of the day, the Bills have demonstrated better football despite what happened in Week 4. However, some analysts don’t have the same thoughts.
Brad Gagnon from Bleacher Report gave 32 thoughts for all 32 NFL teams heading into Week 5 and Gagnon claimed something bold regarding the Bills:
"As we see more and more of Arizona, Miami and Jacksonville, those Buffalo victories are looking a little less impressive. Those teams are a combined 2-10, and Baltimore embarrassed the Bills in Week 4. They have to make a statement Sunday in Houston."
- Brad Gagnon, Bleacher Report
This was a bold and ridiculous take regarding the Buffalo Bills
Record wise, sure, there is an argument. However, the NFL is a week-to-week schedule and anyone can be beaten at any time. Gagnon talked about how the Bills’ first three opponents have a combined record of 2-10, which obviously is not impressive whatsoever. Then Gagnon went into detail about how the Bills took a massive loss to the Ravens, which they did.
At the same time, the Bills have shown that they can overcome adversity against the Arizona Cardinals. They continued to show the NFL that the Miami Dolphins are no match for them. Then they showed that despite all of the injuries that they had on their defense, they still found a way to rattle Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
There is no denying that the Ravens delivered a beatdown to the Bills. At the same time, Baltimore also lost to the Las Vegas Raiders (who eventually lost to the Carolina Panthers), and they almost blew a massive lead against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3.
Gagnon is absolutely right to say that the Bills have to make a statement against the Texans. At the same time, winning the NFL is not easy and they have shown that they can do it in multiple ways. One bad game by the Bills doesn’t mean that their other great performances should be discounted.
