7 moves the Buffalo Bills could make to clear $55 million in cap space
Restructure Dawson Knox's contract
Saves: $2.76 million
Restructure Matt Milano's contract
Saves: $2.13 million
The Buffalo Bills have signed Matt Milano and Dawson Knox to contract extensions the past two years and with both being younger players, they might be willing to restructure as they probably stay with the team over the entire length of their contract. However, these two moves don't generate nearly as much in cap savings as some of the over moves.
Matt Milano has developed into one of the top outside linebackers in the NFL but unfortunately missed a majority of the season after a leg injury in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He hopefully returns at the start of the season and is under contract for three more seasons.
As for Dawson Knox, he is coming off a down year after losing the top spot to rookie Dalton Kincaid. He appears poised to be that number two tight end for this offense but has a contract that pays him like a Top 10 player at his position. This is a big contract that the Bills are going to have a tough time getting out of.
