4 reasons the Buffalo Bills are still the best team in the AFC East for 2023 season

Reason #4: Buffalo Bills get key players back in their secondary

The strength of the Buffalo Bills' defense since Sean McDermott took over as head coach has been their secondary. That first offseason the Bills signed free agents Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde while also using their first round pick on cornerback Tre'Davious White.

These three have been the foundation of the secondary as Poyer and Hyde have been one of the top safety duos in the league and White has been named to two Pro Bowls and first-team All-Pro once.

Unfortunately, this past season the Bills didn't have the same veteran presence as Hyde would miss the remainder of the season after a neck injury in Week 2, Poyer would be dealing with a multitude of injuries that forced him to miss games at different points of the season. Meanwhile, Tre'Davious White was working his way back from a torn ACL and he missed the first half of the season.

However, the Bills are entering the 2023 season with those key players back as Hyde was cleared to return if Buffalo reached the AFC Championship Game, White is now almost two years removed from his ACL injury and ready for the start of the season and the Bills were able to re-sign Jordan Poyer in the offseason to a two-year deal.

The veteran presence of these three players is crucial this offseason as Leslie Frazier is no longer calling plays for the defense. Sean McDermott certainly has experience but having players that are familiar with the defense will be a big boost for the defense and they should be able to return to being a Top 10 passing defense this upcoming season.
