Dawson Knox
Prior to the 2022 season, Dawson Knox signed a four year contract extension worth $52 million that ranked in the Top 10 at his position. This past season, Knox had a cap hit of $6.3 million but finished the year with career lows across the board.
He would finish the year with 22 receptions on 36 targets, 186 yards and two touchdowns with an average of 15.5 yards per game. He would miss some games in the middle of the season due to a wrist injury but even prior to the injury, it was clear that Knox was trending towards being the number two tight end in this offense.
The Buffalo Bills drafted Dalton Kincaid in the first round and the rookie tight end fit perfectly within this offense. It didn't take long for him to pass Knox on the depth chart and the Bills now find themselves in a tough situation.
There is no question that Knox is valuable to this offense and can play a key role. However, he will not produce at his salary and is better suited to be that complementary option to Kincaid. It will be tough for the Bills to move on from him but he will definitely underperform based on his contract.
