DeShawn Williams

Another free agent signing whose spot on the 53-man roster might be in jeopardy is defensive tackle DeShawn Williams, who has started 44 games over the past four seasons between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.

For his career, Williams has 148 total tackles, nine sacks, 30 QB hits and nine passes defended. At the time of the signing, Williams looked like he would be part of a rebuilt defensive tackle position that included Austin Johnson backing up last year's starters DaQuan Jones and Ed Oliver.

However, the addition of third round pick DeWayne Carter certainly puts his roster spot in jeopardy now. Carter is an experienced defensive tackle from Duke who played extensively over the final three seasons with the Blue Devils.

With how much the Buffalo Bills rotate at the defensive tackle position, it certainly makes sense that Carter could have a role as a rookie. He is likely to be asked to play around 30% of the snaps and be that primary backup to Oliver. If the Bills decide to keep five defensive tackles, then Williams should get one of those spots but if they stick with only four then he might be on the outside looking in.
