James Cook

The stat line for James Cook won't jump out for people who were just looking at the box score but didn't watch the game. However, there was a lot to like from this game for Cook, both from his role in the offense and also some little things that won't jump out of a box score.

He was on the field for 59% of the offensive snaps and finished the game with 12 carries for 46 yards and four receptions on six targets for 17 yards. What is notable from this is that the coaching staff committed to him being the featured back, which is a big departure from how the team approached the position the past few years with Devin Singletary.

The other running backs, Damien Harris and Latavius Murray, combined for only three rushing attempts with three receptions on four targets.

It is great to see the Bills give James Cook this workload because he is an explosive running back who is a big play waiting to happen. That didn't happen against the Jets but he was able to show off his speed on key plays, like on a 3rd and short that he bounced out wide and was able to out-run the defender for the first down.

This was the type of speed the Bills haven't had with running backs like Devin Singletary and Zach Moss. It gives a different dynamic to the offense that should help going forward.
