Christian Benford

There is no question that Christian Benford earned the starting cornerback job opposite Tre'Davious White with his strong play during training camp and preseason. He would beat out Dane Jackson and Kaiir Elam but entering this game it was somewhat expected it would be a rotation with Dane Jackson.

That wasn't the case as Benford would not only start but play every defensive snap in Week 1 against the New York Jets. He would finish the game with four tackles and one pass defended while holding up well in coverage in a game it was clear the plan was to challenge him and avoid Tre'Davious White.

The play of the game though was not even a pass but a run as Breece Hall broke loose in the first and looked to be on his way to a 96-yard touchdown run. However, Benford didn't give up on the play and would make the tackle before he got to the end zone.

The Bills defense would be able to bounce back and held the Jets to only a field goal. The effort Christian Benford showed kept four points off the board for the Jets and allowed the Bills to keep the lead.

There is no question that teams are going to test Christian Benford this season with Tre'Davious White on the other side but he showed on Monday night he is up to the challenge.
