K.J. Hamler

The wide receiver position has gotten crowded very quickly for the Buffalo Bills with 13 wide receivers under contract. Just in the past few weeks the Bills added Keon Coleman in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, undrafted rookies Xavier Johnson and Lawrence Keys and veterans Chase Claypool and Marquez Valdez-Scantling.

The front office has done a great job of creating competition at a position they have a lot of questions at with the departures of Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis and even Deonte Harty this offseason. It would be fair to say that the top of the depth chart is pretty well in place with Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, and Keon Coleman.

After that it is anyone's guess but one player that might be cut sooner rather than later is K.J. Hamler, who was a second round pick by the Broncos in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has dealt with his fair share of injuries and over the past three seasons has played in only 10 games, including missing the entire 2023 season.

There is certainly a chance that Hamler can stay healthy and contribute but he most likely is looking at a practice squad spot this season. The Bills may try to give him a chance to land with another team and release him sooner rather than later.
