Buffalo Bills sign free agent Derrick Henry on a team-friendly deal
This may be one of the best free agent running back classes in NFL history with players like Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, Tony Pollard, Derrick Henry, and Austin Ekeler. The bargaining power for running backs has been steadily decreasing for a few years now and is usually a position teams find great values.
When considering the number of running backs available, it is only going to be tougher for running backs to get big contracts. However, this could be good news for teams like the Buffalo Bills that might be looking for a veteran running back to pair with James Cook.
Among the available running backs, Derrick Henry makes the most sense and would be a great fit for this offense. He has been one of the best running backs in the NFL with 1,000 rushing yards in five of the past six seasons and the only year he missed that total was 2021 when he had 937 rushing yards but that was only because he played in eight games.
The biggest concern is Henry's workload as he has led the NFL in rushing attempts in four of the past five seasons and has had over 300 rushing attempts in three of those seasons. However, at 6'3" and 247 pounds he doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon and can handle that workload for a few more years.
