3 Jaguars players Bills fans don't need to worry about
We’re a mere hours away from the Buffalo Bills taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bills look to stay undefeated and improve to 3-0, while the Jacksonville Jaguars look to get their first win of the season. This will be the first time the Jaguars travel to Buffalo since 2018, a game the Bills won 24-21.
Buffalo will likely continue to ride the run game with Josh Allen’s hand still taped up. However, with a weak Jaguars secondary, we could still see Josh Allen take a few deep shots in this game. Who on the Jaguars should Bills fans not be worried about? Let’s dive into several Jaguars players who will be non-factors in this game.
Cornerback Ronald Darby
Yes, we’re in the year 2024 and 30-year-old former Bill Ronald Darby is still a starter in this league. The Jaguars are struggling to find any corner depth, and the best they could find was the ex-Bill who spent two years here. Darby has bounced around the league since being traded by the Bills, playing for five different teams. Now, he’ll have his hands full against the Bills receivers, who have impressed to begin the season.
Darby hasn’t had the best two games this year, allowing seven catches for 131 yards and one touchdown, according to PlayerProfiler. This would be a good game for either Keon Coleman or Curtis Samuel to get going before Buffalo starts their tough stretch of the schedule. Miami seemed to have Keon locked up last week, but with him lining up against Ronald Darby and Montaric Brown, we should see a much better game. As for Samuel, who’s still recovering from turf toe in training camp, we should see more of him in the slot against rookie Jarrian Jones.
Wide receiver Gabe Davis
This may seem like a hit piece on old Bills players, but it’s really not. Gabe Davis had his highs and lows for the Bills, but the Bills secondary hasn’t allowed more than 47 receiving yards to opposing receivers. They’ve faced some pretty talented receivers who are at the top of their game, and arguably better than any Jaguars receiver as well.
Christian Benford has been terrific to start the season as he’s allowed only 25 receiving yards with an 8.3 passer rating, according to PFF. Benford shouldn’t have an issue guarding Gabe Davis as he continues his hot start to the season. Davis hasn’t given the Jaguars much to begin the season, with six catches for 105 yards on 10 targets. Now facing a dominant Bills secondary, Davis will have another quiet game.
Offensive Tackle Anton Harrison
The Bills are finally getting production from multiple players in their pass rush, and Von Miller and Greg Rousseau should have another good game this week. The Jaguars offensive line has been shaky to begin the season, as both tackles have allowed a combined four sacks, with Harrison allowing two sacks on Trevor Lawrence. If the Bills can get to Trevor Lawrence early and often as they did to Tua Tagovailoa, the secondary will have no issues creating turnovers, and we’ll see another great game from this pass-rush duo.
