Even though the Buffalo Bills have had one of the best overall offenses in recent memory, there has been heavy criticism about the supporting cast surrounding Josh Allen. The offensive line is near elite status, the rushing attack led by James Cook is definitely elite, and the tight end room with Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, and Jackson Hawes is solid.
When it comes to the wide receiver room, that’s been a different story. Allen hasn’t had the best receivers around him the last two years. Khalil Shakir is a solid slot receiver, but he is no No. 1 wideout. Keon Coleman has been a bust up to this point, Joshua Palmer dealt with injuries last season.Â
Then you have players like Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins, both who had some solid plays in 2024 for the Bills, but nothing impressive to keep them around. Even though it has just been the wide receiver room that has been the weakest link, Buffalo has taken on a ton of criticism (some of has been deserved).
However, Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone is a believer in the Bills' overall supporting cast based on a recent power rankings list involving every NFL team's supporting cast. In Scataglia's list, the Bills were ranked 9th out of 32 teams. Putting them in the top ten shows just how solid the supporting cast is despite the troubles at wide receiver.
"Buffalo’s offensive line is one of the more physical units in the NFL, helping the run game turn into one of the best in the league. James Cook himself is also quite talented and no slouch, as he’s really broken out these past two seasons and is a borderline top-5 player at the position. The tight end room features Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid, and not many teams can say they’re two tight ends deep. Those two have dealt with some inconsistencies recently, but the talent is evident." said Scataglia.
"And at wide receiver, DJ Moore comes in to provide some much-needed help. Moore averages over 1,000 yards a year, so he’s no slouch, either. The Bills have fielded a top-notch offense for years now, and it’s consistently a unit that is built well and built to win late in the season. Buffalo’s unit comes in at No. 9 in our power rankings." Scataglia added.
Bills receive high praise for area that they have faced criticism at
With the trade for DJ Moore and the draft selection of Skyler Bell, the Bills improved their wide receiver room. They landed their new No. 1 and added a quality young player who could make an impact sooner than later.Â
Even with a battle at the left guard spot, the Bills still have one of the best offensive lines in the league, both in the pass and run game. Then the tight end room returns with a year having played together, giving Allen an immediate security blanket in crucial situations.
Overall, the offensive unit is not perfect, but it’s better than what fans may think it is.
