Bills fans have been hearing and talking about the fact that the Buffalo Bills need to get Josh Allen a true No. 1 wide receiver. They haven’t had one since Stefon Diggs, and they have tried fixing the problem with receivers like Khalil Shakir, Amari Cooper, Joshua Palmer, and heck even Elijah Moore.
Shakir is a solid wideout, but he’s not a No. 1. As for the rest, they were not able to become immediate playmakers for Allen on the outside.
Whether the Bills try to trade for a proven veteran or go the draft route, either way the Bills have to bring in someone who can become Allen’s go-to guy on the outside. It’s been one of the main reasons why the Bills have not been able to get over the hump.
Currently, the Bills have the 26th overall pick in the first round and fans will be very surprised if that pick isn’t utilized to acquire a wide receiver. Now granted, they won’t be able to get the so-called best WR prospect (whoever you may decide that is), but there are quality playmakers coming out of college into this year’s draft.
Latest NFL mock draft has Bills bringing in a National Champion wideout for Josh Allen
Josh Edwards from CBS Sports put together a mock draft and in this mock, the Bills selected Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.
"Thinking back to the best versions of Buffalo, yes, they had a downfield threat like Stefon Diggs, but they also had a slot merchant like Cole Beasley. Omar Cooper Jr. is not afraid of contact and is also capable of creating yards after the catch." said Edwards.
Cooper had his breakout season with the Hoosiers in 2025 and played a key role in helping lead Indiana to a National Championship. He had 937 yards off of 69 catches to go with 13 touchdowns.
Standing at 6-foot and 200lbs, Cooper is someone that can provide separation from defenders which is exactly what the Bills have been lacking from their current wide receiver room. If Cooper were to be drafted by Buffalo, there would be a huge expectation for him considering where the Bills are at as a franchise.
While that may not be fair, it is realistic that Cooper will be expected to immediately contribute and become the playmaker that Keon Coleman hasn’t become.
There will be a great amount of mock drafts happening and Cooper is a prospect that could very well be mentioned as a possible choice for the Bills considering who he is as a player, and what the Bills must fix.
