There are definitely ups and downs to being one of the top teams in the NFL. Since Josh Allen’s second year in the NFL, the Buffalo Bills have been a true contender in not just the AFC but the NFL overall. Year in and year out, the Bills are listed as Super Bowl contenders and hopefully all of the hoping comes true for Bills fans this postseason.
While it’s all fun during the season, there is a down that comes with it. That is losing members of the organization who gain a promotion within another organization (usually a not so good one).
At the end of the 2021-2022 season, the Bills lost former assistant general manager Joe Schoen and former offensive coordinator Brian Daboll to the New York Giants. Daboll is no longer with the Giants and there is a strong case to be made that Schoen may not be with the Giants much longer.
Well-run organizations have members in the building that other franchises may want to have in theirs, and the Bills could lose an important person in the front office this coming offseason. Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated put together a list of the “Hot Names to Watch as Potential future NFL General Managers” and the Bills have a key front office member on Breer’s list.
Bills' assistant general manager Terrance Gray listed as potential future NFL GM
Another assistant general manager under Brandon Beane could very well leave Buffalo and that is Terrance Gray, who was close to becoming the general manager of the Tennessee Titans last offseason. Here’s a bit of what Breer had to say about Gray:
"Alongside fellow assistant GM Brian Gaine, Gray is one of Beane’s top guys, earning a seat in the room for every big decision, from draft picks, to free-agent signings, to extensions, roster machinations and everything in between. He’s also had a direct line to ownership, working with the Pegulas, which should be valuable experience whenever he gets his shot."Albert Breer, SI
Gray was promoted to assistant general manager prior to the 2025 season. Prior to that, Gray was Buffalo’s Director of Player Personnel. Considering that Gray was a finalist for the Titan’s GM job last offseason, he should get some interviews this coming offseason if any become available. If Gray does indeed leave Buffalo for a promotion, then the Bills will have to search for their next assistant general manager to Beane.
