The Buffalo Bills find themselves in a bit of a tricky situation heading into next week's NFL Draft. While they do have seven draft picks, they currently don't have a 2nd-round pick, as it was sent to the Chicago Bears in order to acquire D.J. Moore and a 5th-round pick.
With them kicking off their draft at No. 26 overall, if the Bills decide to stay put and draft someone, they will have to wait until No. 91 to make another decision. So, the big question is whether or not the Bills will stay put, or trade down.
NFL analyst says what Bills fans are hoping for in NFL Draft
NFL analyst Ben Solak from ESPN brought that factor up on how the Bills could make the most out of this draft, and Solak said that the Bills should be looking to move back in the draft.
"The bottom line:Â Have to move back. There are depth needs everywhere, but the biggest ones are at linebacker, cornerback and wide receiver." said Solak.
When the Bills made the decision to fire Sean McDermott, it was the start of a bunch of changes that were coming within the organization. While Buffalo did end up promoting Joe Brady as the next head coach, the coaching staff overall was going to be changing. There are new coordinators and new position coaches.
The biggest change that is coming is on the defensive side of the ball. When it was announced that the Bills were going to be hiring Jim Leonhard as the new defensive coordinator, fans were excited for that move. However, Leonhard will be implementing a 3-4 defensive scheme which is way different than what the Bills were running under McDermott.
With some changes being made on the roster, it leaves Buffalo with some holes to fill. Greg Rousseau is now moving to outside linebacker, so now the Bills may need to invest in an edge rusher who is in the trenches.
The linebacker room needs depth and potentially a starter in the middle of the defense. Heck, you could even argue that the Bills need depth at cornerback behind their penciled-in starters with Christian Benford and Maxwell Hairston.
The wide receiver position can’t be ignored, even with the acquisition of D.J. Moore. Buffalo still needs to add another receiver or two to fill out the room. However, the defense is where a lot of holes have to be filled and if the Bills decide to trade back out of No. 26, fans should not be upset by the decision at all.
